The proposed design connects the alley to the active fabric of the city.

Lights are used to brighten the interior.  A series of large fixtures of varying sizes are suspended to create a glowing ceiling that undulates through the alley.

Plastic lawn chairs provide a simple and flexible vehicle for lingering. Like the lighting, the chairs are intended to spill into adjacent spaces, drawing in users and connecting the interior of the alley with the surroundings.

The ground plane will be seal-coated with shades of purple applied in an abstract graphic pattern. The coating defines the physical limits of the space, and creates visual interest and contrast with the seating and lighting.
