Movie Night in Neural Alley: Beauty is Embarrassing

Sponsored by Maclellan Apartments, join the Chattanooga Film Festival and River City Company for a special free screening of Beauty is Embarrassing: The Story of One of the Visual Masterminds Behind "Pee-Wee's Playhouse." This documentary explores the story of local artist Wayne White's creative journey which has included work published in The New York Times, The Village Voice and set and puppet design for Pee-Wee’s Playhouse in which he has won three Emmy awards. Wayne has also art directed acclaimed music videos for Peter Gabriel's "Big Time” and for the Smashing Pumpkins "Tonight, Tonight" along with an extensive list of projects and accolades spanning his ongoing career.

Wayne will be on hand to introduce the movie and have a special Q&A at the conclusion of the film.

Tickets are required to see this free screening as seating is limited. Two Sons Kitchen will be on site for food purchase along with Peet's Coffee and Tea and The Bitter Alibi for beer and wine.

The movie will be shown in Neural Alley: 721 Broad Street starting at 7:30pm.

Words in Grey: April

Picnic in the Passageways

May 5, 2017

Have lunch in Grass Garden Inversion (730 Cherry Street) every Friday in May with food trucks, music and fun activities. Picnic in the Passageways will be held every Friday in May from 11:30 a.m. - 1:30 p.m with bright bistro seating for a unique lunchtime experience in Downtown Chattanooga.

On May 5th, enjoy food from 2 Sons Kitchen & Market, music by Tryezz and a special live art project by 800 Collective's Josiah Golson. 

Additional bistro seating will be present in the Urban Chandelier - 709 Cherry Street. 


Scenic City Supper Club

The Scenic City Supper Club presents their Spring gathering - Party in the Passageways: Spring Block Party! Chef Adam Evans, formerly the Executive Chef of The Optimist and Brezza Cucina in Atlanta, and soon to be the executive chef/owner of a brand new concept in Birmingham will be the featured chef.

Taking place on Sunday, May 7th in the Urban Chandelier and Garden Grass Passageways, Chattanooga's public alleyway art exhibit, Supper Clubbers will have the opportunity to enjoy a four-course meal in one of the city's most unique and artistic locations. Chef Evans and Chef Erik Niel will steer the collaborative dinner menu with the help of Pastry Chef Dane Frazier of St. John's Restaurant, Grillmaster Lawton Hagood of Boathouse Rotisserie & Raw Bar, Canyon Grill, Side Track and Sugar's Ribs, Chef Jake Cornish of Main Street Meats, and Owner and Brewer Joe Winland of Heaven and Ale. Together, the featured talent will create a thoughtful array of dishes and beverages for a group of 150 guests to enjoy.

Welcome drinks and hors d'oeuvres will begin at 5:30pm, followed by supper at 6:30pm.

800 Collective Art Walk

May 18, 2017

Join the 800 Collective at Neural Alley (721 Broad Street) on Thursday, May 18th at 6 PM for another creative journey into Passageways.

800 creator Josiah Golson will facilitate a special workshop on foot in which participants will receive art materials and special instructions for exploring and creatively capturing both the apparent and nuanced beauty of the alleyway installations.

Throughout the experience, participants will discover and discuss the magic of creative public animation and its place in our everyday lives and communities.

No art skills or supplies are needed to attend. Just bring an open eye and walking shoes as we'll visit each of the four installations. All Passageways are within a short three block walk.

The 800 Collective is a diverse artist group that creates artistic experiences reflective of our communities and their social aims.

Make Music Day Chattanooga

Make Music Day Chattanooga is a live, free musical celebration on June 21, the longest day of the year, with concerts on streets, sidewalks, and parks across the city.

In Neural Alley from 11am-1pm enjoy the Chattanooga Symphony and Opera & the CHAttanooga Girls Rock Camp Instrument Petting Zoo.

In Urban Chandelier from 3-6pm, you'll find Procrastinator’s Passageway, a variety of last minute musical additions. 

In Garden Grass Inversion from 1–3pm, walk up to the Undaground Street Studio and sing or play and instrument to be included in an original song.

Holidays in the Passageways

Stroll all four alleyways and get your dose of holiday cheer: caroling; crafting and card making with The Open Press; a variety of musical performances including a holiday set by local musicians Danimal Pinson, Tryezz, and Swayyvo on his saxophone; hot chocolate, tea and coffee to keep you warm and pictures with Santa and Mrs. Claus.

There will also be dance performances from 5:30-6:15pm in Grass Garden Inversion at 730 Cherry Street. 

Everything is free and family friendly at this holiday Passageways celebration from 5:30-7:30pm.
